The U.S. budget for 2026 increases homeland security spending by nearly 65%.

The White House Office of Management and Budget stated that compared to the levels set in 2025, the proposed budget would increase defense spending by 13%, increase homeland security spending by nearly 65%, and cut non-defense discretionary spending by 23%, bringing it to the lowest level since 2017. Additionally, the White House proposed a budget of $1.7 trillion for fiscal year 2026, a decrease of 7.6% from the previous year. White House officials stated that the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026 includes the lowest non-defense spending since 2000.
